Note that this scientific finding was released in March — prior to the start of the U.S. growing season, and two full months before the earliest application dates for Roundup in the Farm Belt.

However no warning was forthcoming from the USDA, or from the EPA, and certainly not from the company that manufactures Roundup, to alert farmers to the health dangers that this chemical is now confirmed to pose to consumers.

Exactly how much cancer causing glyphosate (GLY-pho-sate) are U.S. farmers using on corn, soybeans, and other staples of the American diet? The totals are staggering . . .

U.S. farms use over 1,400 tanker cars full of glyphosate (Roundup®) each year on GMO food crops.

Glyphosate may react with galvanized steel or unlined steel (except stainless steel) containers to produce hydrogen gas which may form a highly combustible or explosive gas mixture. Glyphosate can react with caustic (basic) materials to liberate heat. Glyphosate is corrosive to iron.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports agricultural use of glyphosate in 2012 at over 283 million pounds, or two-and-a-half times the quantity used in 2002. 1

Why are U.S. corporations drenching corn, soybeans, and other mainstays of the American diet (and the precious farmland it grows on) with a chemical that’s now confirmed as a likely cause of cancer?

For one reason and one reason only — because it’s highly profitable. Production of GMO foods in the U.S. alone is now a $350 billion a year industry. 2

Back in 1992, glyphosate was not used that much. But look at the 2011 map. Can you even find Iowa, America’s leading corn producer? No. The entire Corn Belt has been drenched in glyphosate (Roundup), which the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) now publicly identifies as a likely carcinogen.
